West Palm Beach – Convention

In the 1920s, the Florida land boom brought West Palm Beach a rapid population growth. In a single decade, the population more than quadrupled, and a number of new neighborhoods were built. In addition to building new housing and business developments, the city’s railroad was extended to Miami.

The Palm Beach County Convention Center is a multi-purpose facility in downtown West Palm Beach that contains 350,000 square feet of exhibit halls and meeting rooms. Nearby, the Carefree Theatre, which was constructed in 1940 and served as an art house cinema and alternative music venue, is a historical landmark. In 2011, Hurricane Wilma damaged the historic building. In addition, the South Florida Expo Center is home to the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction.

In 1909, the Florida State Legislature created Palm Beach County, making West Palm Beach the county seat. The city was officially incorporated as a town in 1903, and its neoclassical courthouse opened in 1916. The historic structure has since been restored and is used as a local history museum.

The city also hosts several annual events, including the Palm Beach International Boat Show and SunFest. In January, the city hosts the South Florida Fair, a 17-day fair featuring carnival rides, fair foods, and live entertainment. The Norton Museum of Art features extensive collections and the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden features nine major sculptures. You can also catch a concert at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. For the kids, the South Florida Science Center & Aquarium offers fun and educational activities. There’s something for everyone to do in West Palm Beach, and it’s never boring.

You may also want to spend time exploring the town’s colorful towns. While most of them are located near the beach, there are some that feature revitalized downtowns and artist communities. The city’s population is varied. It is home to some of the top luxury brands, as well as a variety of interesting antique shops and art galleries. The town’s primary shopping district is still located downtown and revolves around Clematis Street. You’ll find something for everyone here, from the classic to the unique.
